The Stamp River 3" trout reel uses a tradional Spring-and-Pawl drag system.  Spring-and-Pawl fly reels are ideal for most fishing situations, particularly when using light tippets. When line is pulled out of a quality spring-and-pawl fly reel, it is pulled out very smoothly. There is a nice even tension that is applied to the line.  With such even release of line, the fly reel goes a long way towards protecting the tippet. The 3" trout reel is a perfect reel for the beginner, the life-timer, and any collector fly fisherman. 

 

The Stamp River 4" spey reel also uses click and pawl drag system, but this design has a three-position adjustable drag setting.  The reel cage, reel foot, and serpentine handle are machined from stainless steel which compliments the black anodized side plates and spool.  The reel holds plenty of backing and accommodates long belly lines.  This reel nicely balances out the tradional-style 15' and 16' rods.  Pretty cool reel!
